When obtaining freight rates for dry freight, having a customer representative who knows the various types of transport equipment is an integral part of obtaining the best freight rate. If the incorrect trailer is being used, you could wind up paying a much higher cost.

We pride ourselves on customer service, and want our customers to save money when possible. Hence, knowing the right trailers to use, the most efficient routes, and constant communication are all very important factors for us. Take a look at the diagram below, as it will be our starting point as they are the two most common types of dry freight trailers.

Dry Freight Trailer Sepcs for Truckload and LTL Trucking

Full Truckloads (FTL) usually give you full access to a truck dedicated to transporting only your freight, and typically, the rate is per mile. So, as described above, if your freight will not completely fill up a fourty-eight foot trailer, you may want to inquire about the possibility of LTL rate quotes. We simply want to transport freight for you in the most efficient manner; so, knowing the number of pieces / pallets, and the weight of your commodities is an important piece of information we will be asking.

What is LTL Trucking?

LTL shipments typically weigh between 100 and 10,000 lbs. Since it would be extremely expensive to continuously transport small amounts of freight, consolidating LTL freight for transport to is the more efficient option.

The main advantage to using West Coast Carriers for your LTL trucking is that we do not transfer your goods once they’re loaded. Your products will pick and deliver on the same trailer. We have a number of accessorial services available which are not typically offered by FTL carriers. West Coast Carriers offers the following additional services, Lift-gate services, sorting and segregating, de-vanning of containerized goods, palletizing and shrink wrapping, storage, distribution, re-delivery services, warehouse consultation & management.
